Keith Mallet

Keith Mallett was born in Pennsylvania in 1948. Mallett studied at the Art Students’ League and Hunter College in New York City, and at LA Valley College in Los Angeles. Mallett was one of twelve artists whose work was chosen for inclusion in the 2003 Allstate Insurance Black History Month Calendar.

For Mallett, painting is a spiritual journey that started in childhood and continues to this day. Mallett has worked as a painter, etcher, and ceramic artist. His subject matter ranges from still lifes to abstracts. In recent years he has devoted his talents to themes that portray the beauty and strength of the African American experience.

The art of Keith Mallett has been exhibited throughout the world and is in corporate and private collections that include the Northwestern Memorial Hospital permanent collection. A variety of television shows and movies have featured Keith’s artwork, including the Showtime original series Soul Food, Disney’s The Famous Jett jackson, TNT networks’ Second String and the Woody Allen movies Mighty Aphrodite and Celebrity.  Mallett’s art has also graced the covers of several books, including Sisterfire, a collection of poems by Maya Angelou, Alice Walker, and Terry McMillan. Mallett was also the artist selected to create the limited edition print commemorating the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic break into major league baseball.
